Under the Public Utilities Water Supply Regulations, anyone who wishes to carry out water service work must engage a water service worker of the appropriate class. The worker must also notify PUB before carrying out the work where required. Failure to comply may be an offence.
The Straits Times reported that two companies and one worker were fined a total of $8,400 for illegal plumbing works. One case involved a worker without a water service plumber licence altering a potable water pipe and installing a tap.
